Refractory Anemia with Ringed Sideroblasts (RARS)
Clinical signs
- basic features are the same as in RA
- prognosis: about 1 – 2% of patients develop AML,
median survival time is approx. 6 years
Histology
- ringed sideroblasts constitute more than 15% of all erythroid precursors
- ringed sideroblasts are erythroid precursors (normoblasts),
siderotic granules are arranged in a ring around the nucleus
