Malrotation of the intestine
Classification
- disorder of the rotation of the intestine or its
fixation to the dorsal abdominal wall
- nonrotation: the whole colon is on the left side
- incomplete rotation:
caecum is above the duodenjejunal junction
- inverted rotation: clockwise rotation
- frequent complication is volvulus and duodenal obstruction
- association with trisomy 12, 18, 21 or with polysplenia and asplenia syndromes
