Spindle cell and pleomorhic lipoma
Clinical signs
  • benign tumor
  • location:
    • subcutaneous: posterior neck, upper back or shoulders; well circumscribed
    • dermal: other locations (face, hands, thighs)
Histology

Tumor is composed of spindled or pleomorphic cells. CD34 is positive.

In spindle cell variant the fat and spindle cells in variable proportion, no lipoblasts. Nuclear palisading may be sometimes present.

Pleomorphic variant contains some bizzare multinuclear cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm.

Both variants may contain myxoid areas.
