Acrodermatitis enteropathica
Etiology

Defect of zinc metabolism.

Clinical signs
  • inheritance: recessive
  • age: children
  • location: acral, periorificial
  • vesicles, bullae, secondary infections
  • nails, hair shafts and other changes
  • may improve after zinc therapy
Histology

Parakeratosis over normal stratum corneum, absent granular layer, acanthosis, spongiosis, pallor of the cells of upper epidermal layers, balloning of keratinocytes (may form vesicles), epidermal necrosis.
